Makerversity has always offered 20% of all memberships for free, as part of our residency programmes – Under 30's and Makers with a Mission. Here we take a look at the latest cohort and their projects, all joining Makerversity for 3 months free membership and support.

Studio TIP

Studio TIP is a new creative practice founded by Katie-May Boyd and Charlotte Kidger, which aims to find local, circular solutions for waste resources. Its mission is to uplift and utilise undervalued materials to collectively benefit industry, community, and the environment. Their work focuses on co-design, public art and material literacy, particularly explored during intuitive free play workshops.

Recently launching at Material Matters during London Design Festival, Studio TIP have also been shortlisted alongside collaborators CRAB architects for a permanent playable sculpture at Dulwich Picture Gallery. In November the studio was commissioned by Central Saint Martins to create an instillation for an event with British Wool.

You can read about some of Studio TIP's other projects here, and keep up with what they're up to here.

Niamh Coughlan - NEC

Niamh Coughlan, is founder of NEC, a sustainable female led inclusive label that embodies Irish heritage infused with modernity.

Having the residency and workspace at Makerversity, has enabled Coughlan to experiment with her brand, broadening the possibilities with machinery and space - bringing to life new ideas and new products made to last for her consumers.

Over the last couple of months, Coughlan has been using Makerversity as a base to make connection to and create pieces for those in the music industry: having dressed DJ IMOGEN for her warehouse x Boiler Room Event, leading onto being the dresser for her Australian tour. Using the laser cutter at Makerversity, Coughlan has been making pieces with the NEC logo, which have gone on to be worn by DJ Lucine for the cause's halloween party and will be showcased at a Fashion event in Milan.

NEC is planning for the development of their next collection, and have an exciting popup booked in Paris early 2025 with Parisian collective Minutars.

Check out NEC's collections here, and follow what they're up to on their Instagram.

Soli Son

Soli Son is an industrial designer with a focus on reusability and creating innovative ways to reinvent old objects into new useable objects.

Soli’s process is heavy on research and development, focusing more on the reason behind a project or product and largely spending time on prototyping phases. During her residency Soli will be making full use of the range of workshops at Makerversity, with a focus on metalwork, woodwork and 3D fabrication. Having access to the full range of facilities and machines she needs to carry out prototyping and further development on her projects.

A big focus for Soli on this residency is to develop her metalworking skills, spending more time to learn machines and find new processes to use in her work.
