Makerversity has always offered 20% of all memberships for free, as part of our residency programmes – Under 25’s and Makers with a Mission.

Here we take a look at the latest cohort and their projects, all joining Makerversity for 3 months free membership and support.

Jelani Thompson

Jelani is a Creative Technologist from Toronto, Canada and has been living in here in London since last August. Currently Jelani is working as a Creative Technologist at Google’s Creative Lab whilst working on his own projects alongside.

During his 3 month residency at Makerversity he is using the workshops to finalise an on-going project. His own musical synthesizer / hybrid instrument, that is set to launch on Kickstarter in the coming year.

If you’re into music production, audio synthesis, digital fabrication, electronics, etc. reach out to me! I’d love to know what you’re working on and would love to collaborate with people building in a similar space.

Check out more of Jelani’s work Here.

You can also play Jelani’s game Wayfinder Here.

Prerna Shinde

Prerna is an experimental multi-media artist, working within augmented reality and immersive experiences. Her background in design merges art, technology, and Science under the name Frozhive. During Prerna’s residency, she’s using the 3 months, amongst a network of designers, to develop her new venture.

Prerna is in the early stages of developing a new Innovative waste management system Reverse for households to be able to easily identify how to properly recycle their waste.

Currently Reverse is being developed into a more feasible platform which helps manufacturers, producers, brands, recyclers and councils improve their recycling rates and reducing carbon emissions while maintaining a circular economy. The targets given by UNSDG’s are supposed to be met by cities and organizations in order to fight climate change. Hence, Reverse is my approach to create a better, cleaner and healthier future to live in.

Keep up with Prerna and Reverse’s progress here.

Immanuel Mbang

Immanuel is an animation graduate, specialising in stop-motion and 2D animations, having always been drawn to making, he ventured into more technical skills, gaining qualifications in welding and engineering.

During his 3 months in Makerversity, Immanuel is looking to make full use of the workshops, having access to learn and experiment with machinery such as the CNC, 3D – printing, and the engineering workshop. His next project is to make mechanical toys alongside designing and creating characters for multiple board games.

As there are so many different areas of craft at Makerversity I’d like to take the opportunity to learn to use as much of the equipment as possible. Though I know what I would like to make, I’m open to using radically different approaches to what I am used to. My goals for the 3 months are about gaining insight on how to scale my ideas, not expecting to miraculously start a massive manufacturing in the matter of weeks.

Have a look at Immanuel’s portfolio Here.
