Somerset House Studios aims to be the home to thought provoking voyagers. Promoting work that pushes bold ideas and that engages with urgent issues. Sounds pretty good to us!
With the launch of Somerset House Studios, we couldn’t be more excited to be joined by “artists, makers and thinkers”. Including Makerversity, there will up to 300 in total. The Studios will transform the remaining unloved floors of the former Inland Revenue Offices where we started out over 3 years ago, making us their largest resident.
More than 100 resident artists are being supported to develop their practice within newly fitted out workspaces. The studios mirror Makerversitys’ response to the raising rents of the centre and creatives being unable to work in the capital.
Somerset House have been a key supporter of Makerversity since we began in 2013, initially by providing us with space at no cost for the first 12 months when we were setting up the business. Now they offer us a favourable rate which allows us to operate an affordable workspace for the most exciting emerging maker businesses in the heart of central London.
Looking at the initial lineup of residents there are very exciting times ahead.
