Mental Health for Makers
17 October, 6pm-7.30pm
15 places, free
Fusion Lab, Makerversity, Somerset House, New Wing WCR21LA London
The media portrays makers as superheroes. Yet they are 3 times more likely to have mental health problems than the general population. Makers face loneliness, uncertainty and overwhelming responsibility. Without the right support, their wellbeing is at risk. If you are in this situation, you are not alone.
Join us for a facilitated workshop based on learnings from a maker’s experience with depression and anxiety. A focus on science, art and economics will allow us to explore various topics. This will include thought experiments and interactivity throughout. Among a few topics and questions we will explore:
– Control and the art of letting go
– Finding your rythm
– Debunking myths around mindfulness and meditation
– The law of conservation of energy
The aim of this session is to come learn and relax after a busy day – and leave with new tools and community support. Open to everyone, regardless of experience.
George Taktak is the founder of How Mental, an online community of over 100,000 people waking up the planet to the power of mental wellbeing. He speaks and writes on the subject, most recently alongside the Secretary of State for Education, and is launching his innovative mobile app, Feeliom, by the end of this year.
