How can rethink our pleasure, away from genitals? How can we design for alternative points of pleasure and explore sex toys adapt to different bodies, sexualities and ideas of desire? Join designer Julia Spence, Mara Pezzotta and Vibio for a morning discussion and group conversation around female pleasure and alternative erogenous zones, followed by an afternoon making workshop to design an alternative sex toy!

Julia Spence is a designer working around the themes of education, female pleasure and sexuality. Her work explores designs for alternative points of pleasure in the body and organises different workshops around these thematics. She is currently undertaking a residency at Makerversity.

Mara Pezzotta is a designer working on the concept of controversial design and how to challenge the way we explore sex, food and death with design. She is particularly focused on how social behaviours influence objects and how to use design to influence society.

Patricia Cervantes and Alma Ramirez are sextech entrepreneurs and co-founders at Vibio. They are currently developing their first toy, a wearable vibrator for women that can be controlled via app. Combining unconventional designs and engaging technology, their products normalise self pleasure by opening conversations around sexuality in a fun and exciting way.

Please note: the main aim of the workshop is the creative exercise behind designing the alternative sex toy, not the making of the object itself.

This workshop will prioritise women’s experiences of sexuality. Although this workshop is open to everyone, please be respectful of people’s experiences to make sure this remains a safe and constructive space.

We run an inclusive space, which does not exclude anybody on the basis of gender. Our definitions around gender include and welcome trans women, trans men and non-binary people. Makerversity and Somerset House’s bathroom facilities are gender-neutral.
